Well, the word “stuff” is pretty vague, so I guess I’ll go over some of the major things.
First the technical side…
I’m not going to divulge everything we researched in order to get Club Stripes going, but like many other pay sites it takes start up capital, getting a business credit card, finding a credit card processor, coding a site and then having art to post on it every week.
Second, why we started Club Stripes…
CS was started by a few artist friends, my fiancee and myself. It was built because most of us had less than wonderful experiences working in the art industry and wanted to see if we could make a business ourselves that we were happier with.
Since most of us were already drawing furry/adult arts anyway, we decided on a pay site. It meant instead of having to do art after going to day jobs we could focus solely on art and trying to get better which is something all of us wanted.
Third, what does it take to keep it going…
To keep something like CS or any pay site going it takes dedicated and talented individuals who spend a lot of time trying to make things they believe the audience (and themselves) will enjoy. It takes them showing up with new content every week. And trust me, this part can be the toughest at times. >_<;
It also takes the ability to adapt to change.
Peoples lives change. Artists come and go. Of the original artists that work at CS, many have moved on to other projects or work places and it’s been good times. Even for myself a lot of change is coming in the next year.
I think a lot of people think of pay sites as only money grabs which I think is pretty sad. Many people love to draw adult art and given the chance would draw a lot more if they had funding to spend the time to do so. Or really, just draw more art in general if they had the money!
I’ve been happy that CS could be one of those places and provide artists that little zone. Even if the work they do on CS is their new day job and they do other art on the side, that’s great! It means they get to do what they love 24/7 instead of something they might not enjoy.
So I guess the overall answer is work. Not that that’s bad mind you! But I encourage anyone out there that’s thinking they want to do something like this for themselves to think over what I’ve posted here and consider what you’d like to do for yourself!
